Family Law And Criminal Defense Attorney Collin Ostroot Is At Your Service
Collin Ostroot helps to clear the confusion around complex legal issues and provide clear context for his clients with every case. Always striving for your ideal outcome, Collin is a family law and criminal defense attorney who treats every situation as unique and will help you find the best solutions for all of your legal needs.
One of Collin’s biggest strengths is his ability to deeply analyze the details of your case and understand the full scope of your legal situation. He truly recognizes that the whole is not always equal to the sum of its parts, and will help you work through each component of your case on a minute level, while showing you how each element can affect the bigger picture.
Clients who work with Collin praise his sharp attention to detail, ability to develop long-term strategies that work to his client’s benefit, as well as how he is able to negotiate in the midst of tense situations. His cool-under-pressure demeanor is a great asset, as it helps his clients remain calm during stressful courtroom appearances.
The Practical Knowledge You Need
After first earning a bachelor’s degree in political science (with minors in philosophy and American studies), cum laude, from St. Paul’s Macalester College, Collin earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He began working with Olson Law as a law clerk during his time at William Mitchell.
Through intensive practical training, Collin began developing his courtroom skills while he was still in law school. Along with working as a law clerk for our firm while in school, he served as a Judicial Extern for Hon. Douglas Meslow, the Assistant Chief Judge of the Tenth District, in Anoka County. Collin was also selected to participate in William Mitchell’s Criminal Law Residency program. One of only ten students selected, he was placed with the Tenth Judicial District Public Defender’s Office and represented clients in court as a Certified Student Attorney in Anoka and Sherburne Counties. His extensive pro bono work was recognized by William Mitchell at commencement.
Our firm recognized the valuable skills that Collin brought to the table as our law clerk – especially his ability to critically analyze legal issues, his eagerness to practice in the areas of criminal defense and family law, and his commitment to the clients for whom he worked – and we brought him on as an Associate Attorney as soon as he passed the bar exam.
Rooted In The Community
A lifelong hockey player, Collin played two years of Junior A hockey in Burlington, Vermont, for the Green Mountain Glades. Although he played nationally, his hockey career began locally: as an Elk River High School graduate, he captained the Elks to two Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournaments.
Collin lives in Albertville with his wife, two daughters, and son where they enjoy cooking, reading, and spending time as a family. They also love to catch an occasional hockey game when they can.
